The following works engage with the themes of flight, air, and winds: Aere. The investigation of air arises from the utopian character of the human relationship with this element. From the desire to fly, to the symbolic significance of the horizon in landscape representation, to the Roman practices of auspicio and foresight, humanity—conceived as a physical projection of the wind itself—either propels itself toward the future or attempts to draw it closer. In a similar manner, the bodies that compose La Rosa dei Venti are portrayed in gestures of thrusting forward or pulling toward themselves, echoing the English expression “pulling winds.” The drawings from the series Tentativi di Volo (2019), which in the exhibition Aere at Palazzo della Penna in Perugia were shown in proximity to the historic video work Tentativo di Volo (1969) by Gino De Dominicis, emerge from a research project entitled Ascesa/Caduta. This research reconstructs the anatomical movement of a utopian human flight, testing the boundary between an analytical gaze and the unpredictability of expression.
