Le Diable au corps

The following works were created in collaboration with Galleria Giovanni Bonelli for our exhibition Le Diable au Corps, curated by Daniele Capra and Massimo Mattioli, which opened on May 25, 2024, at the gallery’s historic venue in Canneto sull’Oglio. Inspired by the novel of the same name by Raymond Radiguet, Le Diable au Corps featured works exploring the themes of the body and erotic-sentimental desire through the painterly lens of some of the most significant Italian artists born in the 1980s and 1990s. The reading of human drive in relation to the body is approached from a dual perspective. On one hand, a universal feeling of overwhelming and unifying restlessness emerges among fragmented bodies — a kind of diable au monde. On the other hand, the gaze turns inward, toward a more intimate dimension, viscerally tied to the individuals who embody and are consumed by desire. Through painting, the works seek the origin of carnality and longing, the complex emotional chessboard, and the mysteries that deeply bind individuals to one another.
